Ridiculous. Nothing is at all similar, aside from the bezel.

Perhaps you need to actually look at an iPhone 3GS and a Galaxy Tab sometime.

iphone.org isn't owned by Apple, therefore, Someone who wanted to fool people and couldn't afford to pay for a .com name could have easily bought this name and just directed it to apple.com.
It is owned by Apple, and has been for years. Nobody knows why, the .org would be kind of obscure for pushing a product.

Secondly, the term "3rd world" and "1st world" is offensive.

Why? Its just a reference to the battleground / spectator status of the decolonized countries during the cold war. (The "second world" being the now-defunct Soviet Bloc.)

    From the almighty Wikipedia:

"French demographer, anthropologist and historian Alfred Sauvy, in an article published in the French magazine L'Observateur, August 14, 1952, coined the term Third World, referring to countries that were unaligned with either the Communist Soviet bloc or the Capitalist NATO bloc during the Cold War. His usage was a reference to the Third Estate, the commoners of France who, before and during the French Revolution, opposed priests and nobles, who composed the First Estate and Second Estate, respectively. It seems to me that the future of running Windows on our Macs is to not run Windows on our Macs.;)

Actually, I think Apple would be far more successful in letting Microsoft develop a better version of Virtual PC for OS X. Then people could run their Windows apps at near native performance. The machine would be a little safer from a virus infection stand point and Apple wouldn't have MS all over their back with lawsuits.

Microsoft would make money on their software and Apple would make money on their hardware as well as software.

Whats wrong with that! Everyone is happy. No revolution or bloody war. Just plenty of apps and great hardware.:D

    Translation:
We were all wrong but we won't admit it so now we say that it's an internal secret ...

It's funny if Apple is going to use App Store then the GM can be a month or mre closer to release date than when they distributed on disk. Why would they in that case make it months earlier?

It was all very silly, but how many of us expect reasonable journalism anymore anyway.

Is anybody truly surprised by this? Droid phones are on almost every single carrier and come in every price point (including free). There is essentially one iPhone that comes at a premium price. Its like figuring out that there are far more chevy's on the road than Mercedes. Not a surprise at all.

It would be nice to see the numbers broken out by phone and carrier costs. Those would be meaningful market share numbers.

Isn't ARM a RISC processor? We just switched from RISC to CISC. And now we're going back? Let me be the first to say this... "Back to the Future." Oh dear lord. This sounds crazy, but who knows. If Apple actually owns the company that makes these processors... it could happen. Anything is possible  I do hope that these ARM processors can be used with high quality GPU's. It just seems so odd after all this development and the 3D breakthrough that Intel just announced. And TB. If we're going back to RISC processors, does this mean that Firewire is gonna make a comeback?

Well thanks for being so generous. But I prefer to pay less taxes, so 2 is still a better calculation than 288.:D

100,000 seems about right. You have to consider what the potential market would be.

For years it was: "Apple must make a tablet or they're DOOOOOMED!!!!" As soon as they did, the same people were screaming about how it couldn't run Final Cut Pro"Epic Fail!!! LOLZZZ!!!"

Then when the iPad started selling like hotcakes, they had to start touting every sort-of-similar contraption that came down the pike, even though they do the same kind of things the iPad does and they were already on record bitching about what a worthless device the iPad was.

Anybody who thinks that they are then going to run out and spend >$800 for something they've already ridiculed in advance needs to take a reality pill.

That's assuming they have any money to spend on it. The screamers aren't buyersthey're howler monkeys. The 100,000 units were probably sold to teenage boys (who got their parents to buy it for them, that is) who saw the commercials and said: "Cool! I wanna morph into a robot!" That market is probably saturated, and I don't think their parents are going to go for any of the fantabulous new tablets that are "coming soon"not this year and probably not next year.

Apple would block it because it gives preference to Amazon's MP3 store over iTunes. No point in even trying. Just wait, MobileMe revamp will make all of us happy.

That's one thing I hate about the whole iOS situation.

To get an app accepted you have to go by Apple's rules.

Developers should be able to design whatever apps they want and as with the Mac App store. Developers have the option to include app in the store and make sure it meets Apple's requirements or sell on their own.

User has the ability to purchase and install apps in or outside of the app store.

MobileMe may be revamped and if so as a MobileMe user I would be able to take advantage. This won't help the people that don't use MobileMe though.

How will Apple handle paying customers' subscriptions that expire after the point this takes effect?

Maybe an apple giftcard for the difference? Like apple did for the early adopters of iPhone 2G when there was a price drop

well i just placed my order for a 15" MBP 2.0 base model w/ an iPod 60GB

i chatted with a rep and pointed out that i have 14 days to return. i have 30 days to submit the iPod rebate (which requires a upc cut from MBP box)

so my status shows ship date of the 19th and arrival of the 26th!

so kinda in a pickle with dates but the 60GB will only cost me $120 in the end.

BTW, Im a first time mac buyer even though ive used em for years at work!

http://static.flickr.com/81/244990126_78cbf5958d.jpgYou couldn't buy the new 80GB iPod at the new lower price of only $349? Man you are buying an obsolete inferior iPod. That is plain lame short sightedness.

If I were you I would phone back and insist on the new 80GB model for sure.

I'd try to take the time to find it.

There are people who specialize in that.

Let them loose. See what they find.

We had a president a few years back who strode into the oval on the declaration that he was going to dive in and slice away at the massive gobs of waste, fraud and abuse that was plaguing the government! We all know what happened to him (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Carter#Public_image).

Which leaves the only concern left being clarify of calls.

I went on a drive on my lunch and received my first call through the TomTom kit today. What I can say is that the speaker clarity was good and the mic picked up my voice suprisingly good for the distance I had it from the driver's seat. I had it mounted on the windshield. However, I did find myself talking a bit louder than normal to ensure the mic would pick up everything, and it did. Throughout the conversation, the person I was talking on the phone with never asked me to repeat anything. I was able to carry on a conversation throughout my drive as I normally would in my car - hands free :p

The speaker volume on the TomTom kit leaves a little bit to desired in my opinion. I found myself constantly moving the volume switch up, but wasn't sure it was on its highest setting because it isn't a 'dial' type adjuster. Although the speaker was loud enough to hear, I wanted it a little louder. However, this may be because my car does not dampen road noise very well. I'm sure your sedan will be much quiter and the speaker volume will be adequate. The speaker quality is clear enough to hold a conversation.

Secondly, the term "3rd world" and "1st world" is offensive. The proper term is developing and developed world.
Yawn. In 5 years, those terms will be "offensive". Then we'll have to call them "mature" and "growing". Then, 20 years later that will be offensive, and we'll have to call them "service oriented" and "industry oriented". Then, 20 years later that will be offensive, and we'll have to call them "1st world" and "3rd world" again. Get off your PC high horse and deal with life straight on instead of hiding behind semantics.

*note: PC does not always refer to computers.

[SIZE=1]I like the notification system. An applet pops up whe I have a notification and I can choose to ignore it or go into the app for more information. What is wrong with that? I'm all for doing things better and maybe someone can show me a better way.

Up until recently I was happy with it as well.

Some sort of pull out tray like a few other mobile OS's would be good. The problem I have with iOS's handling is that it's a modal dialogue you must make a decision on. Either destructive (cancel - you may forget etc) or the positive action - which interrupts your current task. We need some way of being able to say cancel and look through it later when it suits us.

Many times we can be playing a game or browsing a website when a text message or an inane push notification takes precedence on screen. Or even better, an icon could gently pulsate in the status bar that relates to a certain app. Such as a text message, then we can be notified without being interrupted.

i don't think it would appeal to that many people, to have an apple tablet.

i mean, the PC/Win versions aren't great sellers...

I think a lot of you are forgetting about artists and the rest of the creative market. Sure, a programmer or tech geek or business person or writer may have little use for a tablet, but artists are another story. Carrying around a separate, cumbersome USB tablet can become a pain. It's much easier to draw with a pen than it is with a mouse. Whether or not the handwriting recognition is accurate and lightning fast is largely irrelevant, as artists would rarely be using the tablet for that feature. Remember, the majority of creative pros are Mac users, hence a great reason why tablet PCs have yet to take off; there's never been one that was marketed towards and could be used by the creative crowd; many of them wouldn't touch a Windows PC with a ten-foot pole.
